I can't sign in

Updated · 3 min read

Most sign-in problems come down to a forgotten password, an email address that hasn't been confirmed yet, or too many wrong tries in a row. Find the message you're seeing below and follow the steps.

You forgot your password

  1. On the sign-in page, select Forgot password? next to the password field.
  2. Enter the email address on your account and select Send reset link.
  3. Open the email and follow the link. It works for one hour.
  4. On Choose a new password, enter at least 8 characters and select Change password.
  5. Sign in with your new password.

Changing your password from a reset link signs you out on every device. That's on purpose, in case someone else knew the old password.

If the reset page says That link didn't work, the link has expired or was already used. Enter your email on that page and select Send a new reset link. You can ask for up to three reset links an hour. After that, wait an hour and check your spam folder in the meantime.

You forgot your username

You don't need it. You sign in with your email address and password, not your username. Once you're in, your username shows in Settings → Account and in the address of your profile (offtheave.com/yourname).

If you don't remember which email you used, try each address you own with Forgot password?. The reset email only arrives at the address that has an account.

"Too many sign-in attempts"

After several wrong passwords in a row, sign-in is paused for that email address. Wait 15 minutes and try again, or select Reset your password in the message to choose a new one.

"Confirm your email to sign in"

New accounts have to confirm their email address before they can sign in. Open the confirmation email we sent when you signed up. If you can't find it or the link expired, select Send a new link in the message. See How do I confirm my email?

You're asked for a code

Your account has two-step sign-in turned on. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and select Verify. Lost your phone? Select Lost your phone? Use a backup code and enter one of the backup codes you saved. More in How do I set up two-step sign-in?

You signed up with Google, X, Facebook, Discord, Reddit or a wallet

Use the same button you signed up with. An account made that way may not have a password yet, so the email and password form won't work until you create one. You can use Forgot password? with your account's email to set one, or create one in Settings → Account once you're in. See Signing in with Google, Discord or a wallet.

Your account is suspended, banned or blocked

If the sign-in page says your account has been suspended or banned, see Why was my account suspended or banned?. If it says your account is linked to another account, see Why was my new account blocked?

Staying signed in

Keep me signed in for 30 days is checked by default. If you uncheck it, you'll be asked to sign in again after about a week.
