  • LIZ KENNEDY “While I Still Can”
    TrendingNewMusic by TrendingNewMusic 22 0 0
LIZ KENNEDY “While I Still Can” Label: Open All Nite Entertainment https://youtu.be/EfFGY9j0tLQ?si=aurutDLTUzlBhCT8 After going through a whirlwind of life changes, the San Francisco based singer-songwriter, Liz Kennedy, has come to see songwriting not as a choice but something she has to do. She says music sustains her and offers a way forward. Her decade plus as a critically acclaimed recording artist has brought her confidence in her ever-unfolding identity as a quirky, often humorous and ever insightful storyteller committed to honesty and finding something unique to say. Jaffe, whose credits include Maria Muldaur, Lenny Williams and Magic Christian, is the renowned engineer and producer of Studio D in Sausalito, where legendary artists like Bonnie Raitt, Ringo Starr and Carlos Santana have recorded. One of the greatest influences on Kennedy’s development since she took the plunge into recording, he has helmed all her previous recordings, Clean White Shirt, A Good Peach, Nothing Like an Angel, Speed Bump, and Hike Up Your Socks. Jaffe adds numerous string textures to Kennedy’s songs, including acoustic and electric guitar, dobro, mandolin, lap steel and ebow. Kennedy describes herself as honest and observant and adds, “I sure hope I can easily laugh at myself.” Her songcraft – where the lyrics always follow the music – perfectly reflects that thoughtful self-assessment. The fascinating part of the process is not knowing just where the inspiration will come from. “It’s strange how emotional pain and joy can equally send you racing to the piano to capture something … whether it's a butterfly or a heavy brick. After graduating from Stanford University, where she studied anthropology and journalism, she settled in the Bay Area and worked for film companies that made TV commercials. Long before reality TV became a mainstream part of our culture, Kennedy specialized in casting real people (instead of professional actors) for commercials. She also married and raised two children. In her later 40s, around the time she began realizing she had “songs in my head” that had never been recorded, she met Jaffe, who liked what he heard and encouraged her to take her work as a singer/songwriter more seriously. In addition to her growing catalog of recordings, she has performed over the years at such renowned Bay Area hotspots as Sweetwater Music Hall, the Throckmorton Theatre and Club Fox. Kennedy enjoys performing live in an intimate setting and finding a connection people make to her songs. I love to hear what someone gets from a song, in their own way. A good song should translate into another person’s language. Yet before performing there is recording. “I’ve had inexpressibly sublime moments in the studio, listening to what these great musicians bring to my songs,” she says. “I have literally fallen to my knees with the joy of an unexpectedly beautiful touch. There’s no greater moment for me than when we are all listening to the finished product and loving what we hear, experiencing our collective ownership.”

  • KRISTINE W "SMOOTH OPERATOR" - James Hurr (UK) Radio Mix - Billboard Magazine’s “Dance Music Artist"
    TrendingNewMusic by TrendingNewMusic 23 0 0
KRISTINE W "SMOOTH OPERATOR" James Hurr (UK) Radio Mix Digital press release: https://conta.cc/4ixcXhq Broadcast master files: https://spaces.hightail.com/receive/3IjUoDuHkc YouTube preview: https://youtu.be/miIyYwYecC8?si=6LphpB6N_fuGobCr Billboard Magazine’s “Dance Music Artist of the Decade” Kristine W Releases Third Single from Her Upcoming Album Kristine W, named the 8th Greatest Dance Artist of All Time by Billboard Magazine, is lighting up dance floors once again with her reimagining of the Sade classic, “Smooth Operator”. The soulful pop groove is the third release from Kristine’s soon-to-be-released album and pays homage to one of her favorite artists. “I have been performing Sade since I put my first band together in college,” Kristine W explains. The song was a staple in her Vegas show, where she would perform medleys of her favorite artists like Donna Summer, Prince, and Sade. “Sade's drummer, Prescott Ellison, even auditioned for my Las Vegas show in the mid 90's and I hired him on the spot,” she points out. Kristine W’s “Smooth Operator” is available on all preferred digital streaming music platforms. “I think we have all met guys who fancy themselves as smooth operators,” Kristine W muses from her Las Vegas home. “I know I have a time or two or three. Smooth talkers who put up a front of being successful businessmen, educated and well- traveled. In Vegas, you see a lot of them in the casinos all dressed up, hitting on gals half their age, gambling, putting on their high roller shows. “Our code name for them was Johnny Cologne because you could smell them when they walked by,” she continues with a laugh. “The pit bosses and casino execs often acted like the Johnnies, very self-important and smug. I’m sure the better looking they were, the bigger the trail of tears that followed.” For her rendition of “Smooth Operator”, Kristine W worked with Mark Matson (Emoticon), a master at producing songs that combine electro chill and jazz elements. It was important for Kristine that their chill version keep the integrity and vibe of the original. “There is such a cohesive energy and musicality to the original and you can tell a lot of love and time was put into making it,” Kristine W continues. She feels similarly about Sade’s entire Diamond Life album. “The album is a treasure and it inspired me to record my Straight Up with a Twist jazz album live in the studio with a band. It’s an arduous task, let me tell you, but anything worthwhile takes a lot of work.” The remix package of Kristine W’s “Smooth Operator” includes five versions of the track with a selection of house music styles that will fit into all DJ's playlists. The James Hurr and Block @ Crown radio mixes capture the deep house energy that is being played at major music festivals today. Mark Picchiotti delivers a futuristic tech house version while The Dirty Disco & Matt Consola rendering carries a distinct disco party flavor and Dario Xavier’s version is tribal-afro house. “I’m very proud of the remixers who brought their A games to honor our Sade,” Kristine W says.
