What are the username rules?
Your username is your @handle and the address of your profile (offtheave.com/yourname). It must be 3 to 30 characters long and can use only letters, numbers, periods, dashes and underscores. Some names are reserved.
Allowed
- Letters A to Z (upper or lower case) and numbers 0 to 9.
- Periods (.), dashes (-) and underscores (_).
- Between 3 and 30 characters.
Spaces, emoji, accented letters and other symbols aren't allowed. If you want those, put them in your display name instead; see Can I change my username?
Reserved names
You can't take a username that:
- Matches a page on the site, like
music, upload, settings, loginorhelp, because offtheave.com/yourname would clash with that page. - Is a staff or system word, like
admin,moderator,staff,support,officialorverified. - Contains
admin, moderatororofftheaveanywhere in it, even with periods, dashes or underscores in between. These could be mistaken for the site or its team.
If a name is reserved, you'll see That username is reserved. Try another.
Checking a name
On the sign-up page, the username field checks as you type. You'll see offtheave.com/yourname is yours when it's free, or a note saying it's taken or reserved.
Signing up with another account
If you sign up with Google, X, Facebook, Discord or Reddit, we create a username for you from the name on that account, following the same rules (with a few extra characters added if the name is taken). If you sign up with a wallet, you pick your username yourself.
Good to know
- Usernames can't be changed later, so choose carefully.
- Existing accounts keep the usernames they already have, even if the rules changed after they joined.
