How do I upload a song?

Updated · 3 min read

Go to Upload, drop in your audio file (or choose Song or beat), give it a title, and select Upload song. Everything else on the form is optional, but the more you fill in, the easier your song is to find.

Step by step

  1. Open Upload. You'll see the Upload Suite.
  2. Drag your audio file onto Drop anything here, or select Song or beat and then Add the audio. Use MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV or FLAC.
  3. Pick Song or Beat at the top of the form. Beats need a BPM and can be sold with licenses. See Singles, beats and mixtapes.
  4. Check the Title. It's filled in from the file name, and it can be up to 200 characters.
  5. Add Artwork (optional). Choose an image, or design one in Canvas right from the form.
  6. Fill in Details: featured artists, up to 5 genres, up to 20 tags, and a description. Type @ to mention or credit a member.
  7. Optionally fill in Release details and Credits and lyrics. See Release details, credits and lyrics.
  8. Under Publishing, choose Who can see it (Public, Followers only, Private or Schedule a release), and whether to allow Comments and Downloads.
  9. Under Selling, leave it Free or choose For sale and set a price. See How do I sell my music?
  10. Select Upload song (or Upload beat). When it's done, you can Share it, Open it, or choose Upload something else.

Your form and files are kept in this browser while you work. If you reload or leave, go back to Upload and choose Continue under Pick up where you left off. If a file shows Attach this file again, the browser couldn't keep it, so pick it again.

Uploading several songs at once

Drop more than one audio file and you'll be asked how to post them:

  • One mixtape or beat tape: all the tracks go up as one release. See How do I upload a mixtape?
  • Separate singles: each file becomes its own release. The shared artwork, genres, tags, credits and settings apply to all of them. Tap a track to give it its own title, artwork, credits or lyrics.

Made it in the Booth?

Finished tracks from the Booth are kept in your Vault. Send them to the upload form from there, and there's nothing to upload again. See Vault.

In Featured artists, type @ and a username to add a member. They get a collaboration invite in their notifications, and once they select Accept, the song shows on their profile too. Any other name you type is added as an artist and links to that artist's page.

Limits

  • Each file has to fit your plan's largest song upload, and everything you upload has to fit in your music storage. The meter under Publishing shows what the upload will use. See Upload limits and storage.
  • Artwork can be a JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 10 MB.
  • Scheduling a release needs a plan that includes it. See How do I schedule a release?

Troubleshooting

  • "That audio file isn't one we can play": the file isn't really MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV or FLAC (renaming a file doesn't change what it is). Export it again from your audio software.
  • "That's more than your music storage holds": remove something from My Library or upgrade.
  • The upload stopped: check your connection and select the upload button again. Your form is still saved.
