What files can I upload?

Updated · 2 min read

For music, you can upload MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV and FLAC audio files. Artwork can be JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP. Videos can be MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV. Beat stems go up as a .zip, .rar or .7z archive.

Accepted file types

  • Songs, beats and mixtape tracks: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC.
  • Untagged WAV for beat buyers: WAV only.
  • Stems for beat buyers: one .zip, .rar or .7z file with your track-outs.
  • Artwork and covers: JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 10 MB. You can crop it on the form, or design one in Canvas.
  • Videos and shorts: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV. You can also add a video with a YouTube link. See How do I upload a video?

We check what the file really is

Every file is checked by its contents, not its name. Renaming a file to ".mp3" doesn't make it an MP3, and it will be refused with a message like That audio file isn't one we can play. If that happens, export or convert the file again from your audio software.

Size limits

Each song has to fit your plan's largest song upload, and everything together has to fit in your storage. See Upload limits and storage for your plan's numbers.

Tips for the best result

  • MP3 or AAC/M4A files are smaller, upload faster and play everywhere. They're a good choice for most releases.
  • WAV and FLAC are lossless but much larger, so they use more of your storage.
  • Some M4A files use Apple Lossless (ALAC). Not every browser can play those. If your M4A won't play for listeners, export it as AAC or MP3 and replace the audio.
  • Use square artwork. It's shown as a square on song and mixtape pages.

What you can't upload

  • Other audio formats (like OGG, AIFF or WMA). Convert them to one of the formats above first.
  • Music you don't have the rights to. See What isn't allowed?
