My song won't play or its artwork is missing

Updated · 2 min read

Most playback problems come from who's allowed to hear the upload, a guest listening limit, or a connection problem. Missing artwork is usually because none was added or the browser is showing an old copy. Work through the list below.

A song or mixtape won't play for listeners

  • It isn't public: if it's Followers only, only people who follow you can play it. Private means only you. Scheduled means it can't be played until the release time. Check Who can see it on the edit page, or in My Library.
  • The mixtape is hidden: a track on a mixtape follows the mixtape. If the mixtape is private or not out yet, its tracks won't play either.
  • The upload didn't finish: a mixtape that didn't finish uploading stays hidden. Go to Upload and select Finish upload on the draft.
  • It was taken down: an upload taken down after a copyright notice stays private. See My upload was taken down for copyright.
  • They blocked you, or you blocked them: music doesn't play between accounts that have blocked each other.

Music stopped and I'm not signed in

If you see You've hit today's free listening limit, you've reached the guest listening limit. Sign up free to keep listening. Signed-in members don't have a limit. See Do I have to pay to listen?

Nothing plays at all

  1. Check your connection, then press play again. If a song sat paused for a long time, the player gets a fresh link and carries on from the same spot.
  2. Check your device's volume and that the site isn't muted in your browser tab.
  3. Reload the page. Then try another browser or turn off extensions that block content.
  4. On phones, low-power or data-saver modes can stop audio in the background. Keep the page open and try again.

My own upload plays for me but not for others

You can always play your own uploads, even private ones. Check its visibility first. If it's public and still won't play for others, the audio file may be a format their browser can't handle. An Apple Lossless (ALAC) M4A is a common cause. Open the edit page, select Replace next to Current audio, and upload an MP3 or AAC version.

Artwork is missing

  • No artwork was added: songs can be uploaded without a cover, and they show a placeholder. Open the edit page, add Artwork, and select Save changes.
  • Mixtape tracks: tracks use the mixtape's cover. Change it on the mixtape's edit page.
  • You changed it but still see the old one: your browser may be showing a saved copy. Reload the page, or clear your browser's cache.
  • The image was refused: artwork has to be a JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 10 MB.
