How do I upload a mixtape?

Updated · 3 min read

Go to Upload, choose Mixtape or beat tape, add artwork, a title and your tracks, drag them into order, and select Upload mixtape. The mixtape stays hidden until every track is in, then it's published in one go.

Step by step

  1. Open Upload and select Mixtape or beat tape. Or drop all your audio files onto Drop anything here and choose One mixtape or beat tape.
  2. Pick Mixtape or Beat tape. A beat tape is a collection of beats, and every track needs a BPM.
  3. Add Artwork and a Title. Both are required for a mixtape.
  4. Under Tracks, select Add tracks (MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV or FLAC). Track numbers at the start of file names, like "01 Intro", are removed from the titles.
  5. Drag the tracks by their handle to set the order. The order you see is the tracklist.
  6. Tap a track to edit it: title, Explicit, featured artists, genres, tags, credits, lyrics and description. For beat tapes, add the BPM, key and mood, and the files for buyers.
  7. Fill in the mixtape's Details, Release details and Credits. Release details apply to every track.
  8. Under Publishing, choose who can see it and whether to allow comments and downloads. Under Selling, keep it free or sell the whole mixtape.
  9. Select Upload mixtape. The bar shows each track as it goes up. When it's done, you'll see It's up.

How the draft works

When you start the upload, the mixtape is created first as a hidden draft. Tracks are then sent one at a time, in order. Only after the last track is in does the mixtape go live with the visibility you chose. That way, a half-uploaded mixtape is never public.

If the upload stops partway (a lost connection, or you closed the tab), go back to Upload, choose Continue on the draft, and select Finish upload. Tracks that already went up are marked done and aren't sent again.

Once the upload has started, the title, type and track order are locked on the upload form. You can change all of them after it's published, on the mixtape's edit page.

To throw away an unfinished mixtape, choose the trash icon on the draft, or Start over in the form. That deletes the hidden mixtape and any tracks already sent.

Changing the tracklist later

On your mixtape, open the ⋯ menu and choose Edit mixtape. There you can drag tracks into a new order, add tracks to the end, remove tracks, and edit each track. See How do I edit or delete a song or mixtape?

Good to know

  • Members you add as featured artists on the mixtape get a collaboration invite. Featured artists on single tracks are listed, but members there don't get an invite.
  • If any track is marked Explicit, the whole mixtape is marked explicit.
  • The mixtape's tracks follow its visibility. When it goes public, so do they.
  • All tracks count toward your music storage. See Upload limits and storage.

Troubleshooting

  • "Track 3: attach its file again": the browser couldn't keep that file. Tap the track and choose the file again.
  • "Add artwork": a mixtape can't go up without a cover image (JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 10 MB).
  • The upload stopped: select Finish upload to pick up where it left off.
