Release details, credits and lyrics

Updated · 2 min read

Release details, credits and lyrics are optional fields on the upload and edit forms. They show on your song or mixtape page and help people find your music in search. Fill them in when you upload, or add them later on the edit page.

Release details

On the form, open Release details:

  • Explicit: turn this on for strong language or adult themes. An "E" shows next to the title. On a mixtape, you can mark single tracks, and if any track is explicit the mixtape is too.
  • Release year: for music that came out before you uploaded it here, like a 2019 single. Leave it empty for new releases. It must be between 1900 and next year.
  • Exact date (optional): the original release date, if you know it. It sets the year for you.
  • Language: the main language of the lyrics. Pick No lyrics (instrumental) for instrumentals.
  • Record label (up to 120 characters): the label that released it. Independent artists can leave it empty or use their own imprint.
  • Copyright line (up to 200 characters): who owns the recording, like "℗ 2026 Your Name". ℗ is for the sound recording and © for the artwork and writing. Select Fill in to write one from the year and your label or name.

The release year here is about when the music first came out. To choose when it goes live on offtheave, use Schedule a release. See How do I schedule a release?

Credits

Under Credits (or Credits and lyrics), you'll find two fields:

  • Produced by: who made the beat or produced the record.
  • Written by: who wrote the lyrics or melody.

Type @ and a username to credit a member, and the credit links to their profile. Or type any name for someone who isn't on offtheave. You can add up to 20 people for each role.

On a mixtape, the credits in the main form are for the whole project. Tap a track to add credits for just that track. For separate singles, a song without its own credits uses the shared ones.

Featured artists is for everyone who's on the track besides you:

  • Members you add with @ get a collaboration invite in their notifications. When they select Accept, the release shows on their profile too. They can also Decline.
  • Names of people who aren't members are added as artists and link to their artist page.

Lyrics

Songs have a Lyrics box (up to 20,000 characters). Lyrics are shown on the song page and are read by search, so people can find a song by a line they remember. Beats don't have lyrics. On a mixtape, add lyrics to each track by tapping it.

Changing them later

Open the song or mixtape, choose ⋯ → Edit song or Edit mixtape, update the fields, and select Save changes. See How do I edit or delete a song or mixtape?
