How do playlists work?

Updated · 2 min read

A playlist is your own list of songs, in the order you choose. Create one from Playlists with New playlist, or on the spot when you add a song. You decide who can see it, and other people can play, save, repost and comment on your public playlists.

Create a playlist

  1. Go to Playlists and select New playlist.
  2. Give it a Title (up to 100 characters) and, if you like, a Description.
  3. Choose Who can see it: Public, Followers only or Private.
  4. Select Create playlist.

Add songs

Look for Add to a playlist (or Add to playlist) in these places:

  • The ⋯ menu on a song page.
  • The music player's options.
  • An entry's ⋯ menu in your History.
  • My Library: Select several songs, then Playlist.

Pick a playlist from the list, or select New playlist and Create and add. Playlists that already have the song are marked as added. Playlists hold songs and beats, not videos.

Reorder and remove

  • On your playlist's page, drag a song by its handle to move it. The new order saves right away.
  • To remove a song, open its ⋯ menu and choose Remove from playlist.

Edit or delete a playlist

On your playlist, open ⋯ and choose Edit playlist. You can change the Cover and Banner images (up to 10 MB each), title, description, and Who can see it. If your plan includes scheduling, you can also schedule it to go public later. Select Save.

To delete it, choose Delete playlist. The playlist and its comments are gone for good, but the songs in it aren't affected.

Listening to playlists

  • Press play to hear it in order, or turn on Shuffle.
  • Songs you can't see (for example, a song that's now private) are skipped.
  • On Playlists, browse Featured playlists, Your playlists, Jump back in, trending playlists, From people you follow, Most saved, and Browse by genre, or search.

Other people's playlists

  • Save a playlist to your bookmarks to find it again. See Bookmarks and lists.
  • Repost it, Share it, or leave a comment.
  • Only the owner can change a playlist. There aren't shared or collaborative playlists yet.

The offtheave team picks playlists to feature at the top of Playlists. There's no form to apply. Public playlists with a good cover, a clear title and a strong selection are the ones that get noticed.

You can Boost a playlist, just like a song. See How do Boosts work?
