Selling & Payouts

How do I sell my music?

Updated · 2 min read

Turn on For sale in the Selling section when you upload or edit a song or mixtape, and set a price in dollars, XP, or both. Beats sell through license tiers instead of a single price. Anything for sale shows up in the Market and on your profile's Store tab.

Before you start

  • To sell for dollars (card), set up payouts first in Settings → Payments. Until payouts are on, the dollar price field is replaced by a link to set them up, and beat licenses can only be bought with XP (or $DORA). See How do I get paid?
  • To sell for XP, you don't need anything else. XP from sales goes to your XP balance.
  • To accept $DORA (when $DORA payments are available), link a Solana wallet in Settings → Payments.
  • Only sell what you own the rights to. See What isn't allowed.

Songs and mixtapes

  1. Start an upload at /upload, or open something you've already uploaded from Your library and choose Edit.
  2. In Selling, switch from Free to For sale.
  3. Enter a Price (USD), a Price (XP), or both. Dollar prices start at $0.50. XP prices are whole numbers.
  4. Optionally turn on Accept $DORA.
  5. Publish or click Save.

For a mixtape, you can sell the whole mixtape and, from its edit page, its tracks one by one.

Beats

Beats don't get a single price. Buyers choose from your license tiers, such as an MP3 lease or a WAV and stems license. Set these up in Creator Studio → Licenses and add the untagged WAV and stems in the Files for buyers section of the upload form. See Beat licenses.

What buyers get

  • A song: an MP3 download from their library.
  • A mixtape: all its tracks as a ZIP file.
  • A beat license: the files that license includes, plus a license PDF.
  • Purchases stay in the buyer's library. When something is for sale, only buyers can download it.

Rules the checkout enforces

  • You can't buy your own items.
  • Private items, and items from members who have blocked each other, can't be bought.
  • Each buyer can buy an item (or each license of a beat) once.
  • If you take something off sale or change its price, carts that already hold it are updated or flagged at checkout.

What you earn

offtheave keeps a platform fee from each sale, based on your plan at the time of the sale, and card processing fees come out of card sales. See Selling fees. Track sales in Creator Studio → Earnings and Creator Studio → Sales.

Give fans a discount with a promo code for your store. See Promo codes.

Troubleshooting

  • There's no dollar price box. Payouts aren't set up yet, or Stripe still needs details. Open Settings → Payments and click Finish setup, then Check again.
  • "Add a price in dollars or XP, or make it free." For sale needs at least one price.
  • It isn't showing in the Market. Check it's public and that at least one price is set. Beats need at least one license with a price.
