How do I upload a video?
Go to Upload, choose Video, then either upload a video file or paste a YouTube link. Give it a title, add a thumbnail and details if you like, and press Upload video.
Step by step
- Open Upload (in the menu under Creator Studio → Upload) and pick Video. You can also drop the file on Drop anything here: a wide video opens the video form, a vertical one opens the short form.
- Choose Upload a file or YouTube link.
- Upload a file: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM or MKV. The file is checked by its contents, not its name.
- YouTube link: paste a youtube.com or youtu.be link and press Get details to fill in the title and description from YouTube. The video plays from YouTube, so nothing is uploaded and it doesn’t use your storage.
- Enter a Title (required, up to 200 characters).
- Under Details, add a Description (type @ to mention someone), Artists in it, up to 5 Genres and up to 20 Tags. Typing @username in Artists in it sends that member an invite to be credited; once they accept, the video shows on their profile too. Any other name is added as an artist.
- Add a Thumbnail if you want one: JPG, PNG or WebP, 1280×720 or bigger. If you skip it, a frame from the video is used (or YouTube’s thumbnail for a link).
- Optional: fill in Release details (explicit, release year or date, language, copyright line) and Credits (Directed by, Produced by). See Release details, credits and lyrics.
- Under Publishing, choose Who can see it (Public, Followers only, Private or Schedule a release) and whether to allow Comments.
- Press Upload video and keep the page open until the progress bar finishes. When it’s done you get a link to the video and a way to share it.
Everything you enter, including the file, is kept in this browser until the upload finishes. If you reload or leave, open Upload again and pick it up under Pick up where you left off.
After you upload
- Uploaded files are converted in the background for smooth playback, and a thumbnail is taken from the video unless you added your own. This can take a few minutes for a long video.
- Your videos and shorts are listed in My Library · Video, where you can edit them, change who can see them, boost or delete them.
- Uploads that aren’t private can earn XP. See What is XP?
Limits
Uploaded video files count toward your video storage, and each file has a maximum size. Both depend on your plan; the storage meter on the form shows what you’ve used. YouTube links don’t use storage.
Scheduling a release for later is a plan feature too. See How do I schedule a release?
Troubleshooting
- “That file isn’t a video we can use.” Export or convert it to MP4 and try again.
- “File too large for your current plan” or “Storage quota exceeded.” Your file is over your plan’s maximum size, or your video storage is full. Delete videos you no longer need from My Library · Video, use a YouTube link instead, or upgrade.
- “This video is vertical, so it may fit better as a short.” Press Post it as a short instead to move the file to the short form. See How do shorts work?
- The YouTube link isn’t accepted. Use a normal video link (youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/…, or a youtube.com/shorts/… link).
- “This video couldn’t be processed.” The file couldn’t be converted for playback. Delete it from My Library · Video and upload it again, ideally as an MP4.
- “Scheduled releases come with a paid plan.” Pick another Who can see it option, or upgrade your plan.
