How do communities work?
On this page
Communities are groups built around a sound, a city, a crew or a topic. Each one has an address like c/name, its own feed of posts, rules and moderators. Members post, comment, run polls and vote the best posts up. Start at Community.
Browse
- Your communities shows posts from communities you've joined. All shows posts from everywhere you can see.
- Sort by Hot, New, Top (Today, This week, This month, This year or All time) or Rising, which shows new posts picking up votes and comments in the last week.
- Search posts with the search box.
- The side rail (a strip on phones) lists your communities, Popular this week and Featured communities.
A community's page
Each community page has its banner and icon, a Join button, tag chips to filter posts, a search box, and an About, Rules and Moderators section. Pinned posts sit at the top of the feed.
Join a public community
- Open the community.
- Tap Join. The button changes to Joined, and its posts show up in Your communities.
Join a private community
Anyone can see a private community's About section, but only members see its posts.
- Tap Request to join.
- Add an optional message saying why you'd like to join, then tap Send request.
- The button shows Requested. The moderators are notified, and you get a notification when they approve you.
To withdraw a request, tap Requested. You don't get a notification if a request is declined, but you can ask again later.
Leave a community
Tap Joined (on a computer it reads Leave when you hover). You leave right away. To rejoin a private community, you'll need to request again. The owner can't leave their own community.
Your communities in one place
My communities lists everything you've joined. If you own or moderate communities, it also has You moderate, Reports and Appeals tabs.
Some communities are admin-only: everyone can read them, but only admins can post.
Troubleshooting
- You're banned from this community: see Removed or banned from a community.
- This community is private when opening a post link: request to join to see it.
- There's no community by that name: it may have been deleted, or the link is off.
