Messages & Notifications

How do notifications work?

Updated · 2 min read

Your notifications live at Notifications (the bell at the top of the site). A dot on the bell means you have something new. Everything we notify you about shows up here, whatever your email settings are.

Filters

Use the chips at the top to narrow the list:

  • All and Unread (with a count).
  • Activity: new followers, messages and message requests, reposts, shares, mentions, and likes on your posts and comments.
  • Music: sales, likes and comments on songs, mixtapes and playlists, someone making your song their Anthem, and collaborator invites.
  • Community: joins, upvotes, pins, poll votes, join requests and approvals, removed posts, bans and moderator changes.
  • Videos: likes and comments on your videos and shorts.
  • Updates: your plan, badges, boosts, warnings and account notices, copyright notices and appeals.

A dot on a chip means it has unread notifications.

How the list works

  • Repeats about the same thing on the same day are grouped into one row, like "Ana and 3 others liked your song".
  • Rows are sorted into Today, Yesterday, This week and Earlier. More load as you scroll.
  • When a new one arrives while you're on the page, a New notifications pill appears. Tap it to jump up.
  • Tapping a row takes you to the thing it's about and marks it (and everything grouped with it) as read.
  • Mark all read clears every unread dot at once.

What triggers a notification

  • Someone follows you, mentions you, messages you, or replies to, likes, loves or pins your comment.
  • Someone likes, comments on, saves, reposts or shares your songs, videos, posts or photos.
  • Someone buys your music, or invites you to collaborate on a release. Collaborator invites have Accept and Decline buttons right in the row.
  • Things happen in your communities: joins, upvotes, poll votes, join requests, or a moderator action on your post.
  • Your plan, boosts or badges change, or there's a notice about your account or content.

You won't see notifications caused by people you've blocked, people who blocked you, or people you've muted.

Settings

The gear icon (Notification settings) opens Settings → Notifications. Those switches control email only. On-site notifications can't be turned off. See Email notifications.

Troubleshooting

  • I expected a notification and didn't get one: check whether you muted or blocked that person, and check the All filter.
  • Couldn't load your notifications: tap Try again, or refresh the page.
  • A message notification but no message: look in the Requests tab of Messages.
