How do I design a cover in Canvas?

Canvas is a design studio in your browser for cover art, posts, stories, video thumbnails and profile banners. Open it from the menu under Creator Studio → Design Cover, or go to /creator/canvas. Start from a template or a blank size, then download or use your design right away.
Start a design
- On Canvas, press New design and pick a size: Cover art (3000 × 3000, for singles and mixtapes), Square post, Portrait post, Story, Video thumbnail, Profile banner or Link / ad image.
- Or pick one under Start from a template. Templates with a lock are part of a higher plan.
Uploading a song or mixtape? Next to the artwork field, press Design one to open Canvas inside the form, then Use this design to drop it in as the cover.
Build it
The tools are along the side (on a phone, along the bottom):
- Templates: switch to a template. If your design already has content, you’re asked before it’s replaced.
- Text: titles, artist names and more, in a range of fonts.
- Photos: search free photos. The photographer is credited when you select the photo.
- Uploads: your own images (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF). You can also drop or paste images onto the design. They stay in your library for next time.
- Shapes, Stickers, Background and Draw.
- Layers: move items up or down, hide them, or lock them so they don’t move by accident.
Select anything to change it in the settings panel. Photos have Fill the design, flip buttons and an Adjust section with filters and looks; some of these are part of higher plans. Use Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z), and zoom with − and +.
Save
Press Save to keep the design in your Canvas list. After the first save, changes save by themselves every few seconds. The ⋯ menu has Rename, Change size and All designs.
Download and share
- Press Share / download.
- Pick a size and a format: JPG, or PNG (keeps transparency) and WebP if your plan includes them.
- Press Download, or use the design directly: Post to the feed, Add to your story, Use as profile picture or Use as profile banner.
What your plan includes
How many designs you can save, the largest download size, templates, PNG and WebP downloads, photo filters and custom sizes depend on your plan.
Your image library holds up to 500 uploaded images. Delete ones you no longer use from Uploads.
Troubleshooting
- “Your plan saves up to … designs.” Delete a design you don’t need from Canvas (⋯ → Delete), or upgrade.
- I can’t pick a bigger download size. Downloads are capped at your plan’s size. The download sheet shows which plan allows more.
- An image I deleted left a blank space. Designs that used a deleted upload show an empty spot. Add the image again.
Deleting a design doesn’t affect images you already downloaded, posted or used as a cover.
