Mixing the pace and melody of the big Swedish bands with the urgency of California thrash as well as the darkness and musical chops of black metal, Black Holiday was one of the premier underground metal acts to emerge in LA/Orange County, California in the early 2000s. Opening for Slayer, System of a Down, In Flames and other big acts they honed their brand of American Blackend Death Metal with intricate, elaborate guitar lines and unforgettable melodies. The good folks at legendary metal magazine Keeper released Black Holiday’s full-length album in 2003 on Keeper Music and featured them on the cover of issue 14 along with Shadows Fall. Black Holiday followed their album with The Possession EP in 2005 before disbanding.

SONG LYRICS: "The Energy Vortex"

A place I find myself, surrounded by darkened bliss

Silence fills the air, majestic place I’m in

Feel the energy, surround my weightless shell

Elevate my body to euphoria, my eyes see nebula

Take my hands, say you will, come to me, let me lay beside, your gracious light, with dignity, let me hold you though, I know that I can never own, give me that before, my heart burst into flames

Filling up the void, below sacred grounds

A place the earth will breath out, on top of mountains peaks

To reach down so far, you touch the tips of flames

Searching through pieces, life within the Vortex

Take my hands, say you will, come to me, let me lay beside, your gracious light, with dignity, let me hold you though, I know that I can never own, give me that before, my heart burst into flames

Knowing the night, slipping the day

Some things you can’t see, only feel

Letting go what’s lost, only to find

Courage in the mind, the heart will follow

Existence is such, a search for what’s right, finding some truth, to live by, I try to face, it alone, I keep searching, to find my way home.
