OK!Good Records

Janet Devlin, the talented singer-songwriter hailing from Northern Ireland, has carved a niche for herself in the music industry with her soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Her highly emotional sound is formed by a fusion of traditional folk, country, indie and quirky pop. With a talent for penning deeply personal and introspective lyrics, she has created a body of work that resonates with listeners on a profound level. Her songs often explore themes of love, self-discovery, and resilience, showcasing her poetic prowess and emotional depth. She has written with writers such as Newton Faulkner, Jack Savoretti, Lauren Aquilina, Ben Earle and David Sneddon. She has also collaborated on tracks with Gareth Emery, Schiller, Leo Stannard and the bone fide music legend, Engelbert Humperdinck.

Born on November 12, 1994, in Gortin, County Tyrone, Janet gained widespread recognition through her appearance on the UK X Factor in 2011. Finishing in fifth place during the live finals, she captured the hearts of millions with her unique vocal style and emotive performances. She began releasing music shortly after and hasn’t looked back. Her first album, Running With Scissors, reached #1 on the Indie Breakers Chart and made the Top 50 of the Official UK Charts. Her cover of The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love has reached almost 20M plays on Spotify alone.

Her latest album, ‘Emotional Rodeo’ was a major success, cementing Janet’s prominent place in the country-rock scene. The album reached #1 on the iTunes Country Chart, #4 on the UK Official Country Artists Albums Chart, #5 on the UK Official Indie Breakers Chart, and #21 on the UK Official Independent Albums Chart. Janet appeared for a session on The Scott Mills Radio 2 Breakfast Show ahead of C2C Festival and has received praise from the likes of Russell Crowe, who previously took her on tour and continues to applaud her talent – comparing her to Stevie Nicks and admiring her ability to be both “ethereal” and “very direct” on stage.

Quote from Janet Devlin:

“I wanted to write a song that would sum up the freedom I feel when I’m on my own. Be it solo horseback riding around the countryside or just anywhere far away from where the people are. As someone who has too many feelings and they used to bleed into most avenues of my life - emotional detachment, in this way, is actually a great and freeing thing. For some the concept of being in the vast unknown, away from civilisation is scary. The old me would’ve probably agreed. Now, for me it feels peaceful. I enjoy my own company, some may say a little too much. I feel like super-rural living in a lot of ways is like being in outer-space. Both are on the fringes of civilisation and reality.

In the single version, I’ve opted for high octane, singalong fun. I wanted to hammer home the message that I’m having a good time out here on my own! I wanted something that I could hum along to when I’m out on my walks or riding around the countryside.

This song is for the people who enjoy their own space. Especially in this world where we’re connected 24/7. It’s a party song for those of us at our own solo parties. Yes, we may be a little bonkers - but who isn’t? We’re not lost, unless we’re trying to be. It’s not loneliness if we’re liberated. I promise you, we’re doing just fine!”

SONG LYRICS: "Houston"

I wake up in the morning with no rooster crow
Out in the sticks and all alone
Where the sun don’t shine and a cold wind blows
In my bones, it’s in my bones

I never been lost in these old hills
Got no time but time to kill
Livin’ in the land where life stands still
Had my fill of empty thrills

No need for prayin’
I’m just sayin’

Houston, I got so many problems
I’m a space cowgirl
And a little bit too far gone
And I say, Houston I got so many problems
Me myself on the intercom
Myself and I only singing to Major Tom

I like my livin’ when I’m hard to reach
Got nobody here to bother me
Blood red sky where the river runs deep
Don’t you see, I am free

No need for saving
I’m just sayin’

Houston, I got so many problems
I’m a space cowgirl
And a little bit too far gone
And I say, Houston I got so many problems
Me myself on the intercom
Myself and I only singing to Major Tom

I wake up in the morning with no rooster crow
Out in the sticks
Out in the sticks and all alone…

Houston, I got so many problems
I’m a space cowgirl
And a little bit too far gone
And I say, Houston I got so many problems
Me myself on the intercom
Myself and I only singing to Major Tom
