OTA v5.1 is live: here's what's new and what's fixed.
offtheave just got its biggest update since v5 launched in July. Here's the short version.
What's new
• A new look everywhere: rebuilt pages with faster loading.
• A new player: full-screen view with your queue, thumbs up and down, volume slider, and Up Next to keep the music going.
• Moments: comment at an exact second of a song, mixtape, playlist or video.
• Continue listening/watching picks up right where you left off.
• Voice notes leave a voice note on any post, comment, DM, or even as your profile intro!
• Messages, rebuilt, with GIFs and voice notes.
• Profiles: add an anthem, a voice intro, photo albums, and your state and country.
• Communities, rebuilt, with rules, post flair and better tools for mods.
• Stories for your followers, now with link buttons, and the ability to select which part of the song you want to play.
• Uploads: credits, label, lyrics, explicit tags, WAV files and scheduled releases.
• Creator Studio: Studio Booth to make songs, Canvas to design covers, and Boost to promote your work.
• XP: more levels to climb, a leaderboard and your full XP history.
• Also new: refreshed badges, a weekly artist recap email, push notifications, multi-language support ("See translation" on messages and comments), and a rebuilt Help Center.
What's fixed
• Old OTAv1 profile links (names with spaces or symbols) work again, and garbled usernames from the old forum are cleaned up.
• Old descriptions and bios no longer show stray code, and song titles no longer show stray backslashes.
• Songs whose audio can't play are skipped automatically and marked "Audio unavailable" instead of stalling the player.
• The mini player no longer covers the bottom of the page, and menus scroll properly on phones.
• Members without a photo get a clean initial avatar instead of the old gray silhouette.
• Faster search, homepage and music pages.
• Safer accounts: changing your password signs you out everywhere else, and a new email address has to be confirmed before it takes effect.• and much, much more! I've also built a fully functional Android that will be open for beta testing soon. More to come!
